Michael Madison, Board Chair

Professor Michael Madison is Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a Senior Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security (Pitt Cyber). At Pitt Law, he is Faculty Director of the Innovation Practice Institute (IPI) and a John E. Murray Faculty Scholar. As a researcher and teacher, Professor Madison focuses on institutions for producing and distributing knowledge, information, creativity, innovation, art, and data. The scope of his writing ranges from the development of research universities to patent history, from the law of fair use and production of conceptual art to legal rules governing data, network security, and the commercial law of computer software. He is the author of more than 50 journal articles and book chapters, the co-author of The Law of Intellectual Property (Wolters Kluwer, 5th edition 2017), and the co-editor of Governing Knowledge Commons (Oxford University Press, 2014) and Governing Medical Knowledge Commons (Cambridge University Press, 2017). Professor Madison is the co-founder of the global research network titled the Workshop on Governing Knowledge Commons and the global law reform platform titled Future Law Works.

Dan Law, Treasurer

Dan Law is the Director of Advancement at the Andy Warhol Museum, where he leads fundraising, business development, and partnerships for the museum. Dan was previously the Business Director at Ascender and the Executive Producer and Director of Thrival, where he focused on driving multi-million dollar funding and sponsor campaigns, creating partnerships with multi-billion dollar companies, and aligning multi-stakeholder and cross-sector strategic priorities to advance Pittsburgh’s innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Dan has a B.A. in English and History from Washington & Jefferson College as well as an MPIA from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.


David Danks, Secretary

David Danks is the L.L. Thurstone Professor of Philosophy & Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. He has published over 75 articles & book chapters, many in the area of AI & machine learning and their social and psychological impacts. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of California, San Diego (2001), and an A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University (1996).


Karen Trader

Karen Trader is the Director of US Services for SimWell, LLC, driving simulation and AI solutions for esteemed clients including Starbucks, Anheuser-Busch, and Google.  Throughout her career, with a keen focus on innovation and customer-centricity, Karen has been at the forefront of launching impactful products for Fortune 500 companies, such as redesigned data infrastructures and architectures.  Her expertise lies in bridging the gap between IT and business through creative and cutting-edge analytical methodologies.  Karen is also an Adjunct Professor at Grand Canyon University, teaching the next generation of data analytics professionals. 

When she's not deeply involved in her professional, humanitarian, and academic endeavors, Karen finds her greatest joy in treasuring precious moments with her children, Daniel and Grace. As a dedicated mother, her focus is to instill in her kids the importance of family and education, while striving to set a positive example as a minority woman in the tech industry.

 Karen holds a master's in Business Analytics from Grand Canyon University and aspires to pursue a PhD in the near future. 


Dave Coogan

Dave Coogan is a privacy and cybersecurity attorney at Paul Hastings where he advises public and private clients in cybersecurity and data privacy matters. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He has counseled clients on privacy and data protection regulatory compliance, including compliance with state, federal, and international data privacy laws. He has assisted client in a variety of different industries with security and data privacy, including healthcare, technology, and education companies and financial institutions. Additionally, he helps clients design and implement privacy and information security programs. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Dave served as a prosecutor and intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps. As a prosecutor, he was assigned to the Marine Corps complex trial team and prosecuted high profile and special victims cases.


Dr. Conrad Tucker

Dr. Conrad Tucker is the Director of CMU Africa and Arthur Hamerschlag Career Development Professor, Mechanical Engineering, at Carnegie Mellon University.  He is also the Commissioner of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce AI Commission on Competitiveness, Inclusion, and Innovation. His research focuses on developing Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods to enhance the novelty and efficiency of engineered systems. His research also explores the exploitability of AI models and the potential impacts on people and society. Dr. Tucker has served as PI/Co-PI on federally/non-federally funded grants from the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Army Research Laboratory, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others. In February 2016, he was invited by National Academy of Engineering (NAE) President Dr. Dan Mote, to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee for the NAE Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium. He is currently serving as a Commissioner on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Artificial Intelligence Commission on Competitiveness, Inclusion, and Innovation. Dr. Tucker received his Ph.D., M.S. (Industrial Engineering), and MBA degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
